Holidays in Pucisca

All blissful peace and quiet, Pucisca spreads outwards and upwards around one of Brac Island's bays. The lower levels were once the haunts of the upper crust. Big old houses at the water's edge were built by rich merchants and the local aristocracy. Getting smaller and simpler as they climbed the encircling hillsides – like the gallery to the gods in a man-made theatre. And the highest of the buildings meet olive groves that cloak the rolling hills. Strolling these quiet - and sometimes quite steep - old streets is an intriguing glimpse of past and present. There are shops and eateries sprinkled around the town and, back down at sea level, Pucisca has a narrow beach. So if you're a serious sun-worshippers, you may want to cross the island to Bol for a day on the sumptuous Zlatni Rat sandbar. This is Brac's best known resort and longest established settlement – tracing its origins back 2,000 years. These days, cafes, bars and restaurants punctuate a pretty promenade. Other island highlights include the waterfront eateries of Supetar where ferries sail for the mainland, picturesque Postira – Pucisca's nearest neighbour and the sheltered sandy beach at nearby Lovrecina.
