More a village than a hotel, the Paphos Gardens Hotel and Apartments is one good-looking Cypriot. Split between a dinky hotel building and smaller sugar-cube bungalows, the hotel rises up from bougainvillea-draped gardens. And with its whitewashed walls and terracotta-tiled roof, it's the epitome of classic Mediterranean styling.
This place has scored a coup on the location front, too. It's within walking distance of the beach. There are restaurants and bars on the doorstep. Plus it's close to Paphos harbour where you'll find plenty in the way of fish restaurants and tavernas.
On the pool front, there are two sweeps of turquoise set into a roomy terrace – one for the hotel and one for the apartments, but you can use both. They come with whirlpool baths, sunbeds and parasols, not to mention two pool bars. There are plenty of activities, too. They've got a tennis court, a gym and a small but luxurious spa complete with indoor pool, sauna and treatment rooms.
As for the bedrooms, the hotel rooms come with satellite TVs and air-conditioning as standard. The apartments, meanwhile, have a similar set-up but are kitted out with small kitchens, too. We were a bit disappointed with the St George Hotel, while there were certain things you would expect from a Platinum Hotel and the reception and public areas were beautiful the rooms were a bit shabby. They are to undergo refurbishment this year,... more on this review
