Guide to Capicciolo

The Valinco Gulf stretches from Porto Pollo to Campo Moro and is a glorious gulf fringed by wonderful sandy beaches. At the heart of the Gulf is the small port of Propriano, a former sleepy fishing village that now offers a range of restaurants and harbourside cafes. Further round the Gulf is the ancient site of Filitosa - famous for its prehistoric menhirs and dotted along the sweep of beaches are hidden restaurants and cafes to tempt its visitors, whilst the mountains behind are less than an hour away.

With its vast beaches, the Valinco Gulf is perfect for families, so perfect in fact that Simply Corsica offers the haven of Capicciolo, our own little resort on the Gulf where we offer accommodation in little beachside cottages with the added bonus of its own beach, watersports and childcare facilities.

'You could search the whole coast of Corsica and not find anything comparable', maintains Monsieur Benetti, owner of Capicciolo, with justification. We've done our own 'Tour de Corse' motor rally more than once, investigating almost every accessible spot along the entire 650 miles of spectacular coastline and found nothing to compete with his domain for its combination of seclusion and gorgeous seaside position.

Capicciolo Beach is many people's idea of heaven and only Simply Corsica guests, friends of the Benetti family or patrons of the beachside restaurant and hotel have direct access to it from land. Paradise for most, these beaches are not the ultimate for small children as the sand is not suitable for sand castles and, depending on the weather, the beach can shelve quite steeply.

Pleasures are simple at Capicciolo: catching fish in rock pools, diving off granite ledges or finding smooth slabs of stone on which to lie, relaxing on a sandy beach and swimming or snorkelling in clear turquoise water.

Only a 15 minute drive from the tranquillity of Capicciolo is the bustling harbour town of Propriano where there are plenty of shops and restaurants. Tantalising smells - roasting chickens, freshly-baked bread, garlicky ratatouille, pungent fish soup - lure you to buy mouth-watering delights, such as beignets au brocciu (doughnuts stuffed with cream cheese) or paella garnished with langoustines.

Capicciolo is run by our own staff, allowing us to tailor-make the services we offer to the demands of guests. Do call our team on 020 8541 2205 for details of an alternative service.
