Maison U Santu

The balcony of the 17th-century St Pierre and Paul church in the pretty village of Piedicroce has an extremely privileged position overlooking the Castagniccia and reveals the Valley of Orezza and the chestnut forests spread out below. A few metres from the church, Maison U Santu is situated in the heart of the mountains yet is only thirty minutes' drive from the coast and its many beaches. There are four simple but comfortable apartments housed at U Santu, all very recently renovated. The apartment we have chosen for our guests has an open plan kitchen and living-dining area from which an archway leads to a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a bathroom. A balcony runs the width of the living room and double bedroom giving glorious views across the valley.
From Piedicroce you can depart on numerous walks which will take you to rivers rich in trout or up to the heights of Mount San Petrone. A climb to the summit of the Castagniccia's highest mountain will reward hardy hikers with spectacular views down to the sea and across the mountains. As well as stunning scenery, this charming village boasts a post office and a couple of bars and restaurants.From Piedicroce you will have easy access to a profusion of churches, Roman chapels and baroque masterpieces and the depths of the Castagniccia can be explored on horseback if preferred as there is a local riding school.
