An introduction to Villa Salvini
The waterfall which cascades down into a shallow pool and then spills over into the main pool at Villa Salvini takes the breath away, as does the dazzling view over hills carpeted in fragrant maquis to the cream and turquoise crescents of Porto Vecchio's most famous beaches: Santa Giulia and Palombaggia.
The interior is original rather than luxurious and the bedrooms and mezzanine are simply furnished, but there is masses of space and no lack of comfort. Split into two, with an upper and lower section, there is also a downstairs suite.
The main sitting-dining room, with its polished terracotta floors, sofas and magnificent fireplace is especially handsome, as is the open plan fitted kitchen. Both the sitting room and the adjoining ante-room have French windows opening to the shady veranda spanning the full width of the villa. Also on this floor is a double room with en suite shower room, a small mezzanine with two children's beds and a bathroom.
Villa Salvini may be only a 15 minute drive from Santa Giulia, but its lofty hilltop position gives it refreshing breezes during Corsica's hot summers. It is a marvellous retreat, in the peaceful hamlet of Pietra-Longa-Salvini, yet is under 20 minutes by car from Porto Vecchio and only a little more from Bonifacio, so access to shops and restaurants is easy.
