Villa Campana

Sitting in the belly of the cushiony hills above Sartene, Campana is a traditional stone delight. It's pin-drop peaceful. Can't-believe-your-eyes pretty. And the countryside views are to-die-for. It's also got bags of character.

Step inside and it's all high beamed ceilings. Tiled flooring. And whitewashed walls. Downstairs, the open-plan layout is split level and lets the light flood in. The spacious living area has stylish sink-into leather sofas, a feature fireplace and is overlooked by a mezzanine gallery. The elegant dining area has seating for six. And there's also a separate farmhouse-style kitchen with all the mod cons such as a washing machine, dishwasher and microwave.

You'll also find four bedrooms here, so it's perfect for larger families or groups of friends. Two of the three double bedrooms spill out through French windows on to the covered terrace and there's a further twin room upstairs, which overlooks the living space. Whichever one you lay your head down in for the night, they're all decorated in restful colours and are light and airy.

And it's just as impressive outside. Sat in gorgeous gardens with lush lawns, swishing trees and clouds of flowers, it's delightfully private. The piece de resistance of course, is the large turquoise pool. Flanked by a decorative patio with stripy blue and white sun loungers and parasols, it's idyllic for doing absolutely zilch. And when you get peckish, simply fire up the barbeque and enjoy an al fresco meal on the terrace dining table.

If you can tear yourself away from such perfection, the picturesque village of Sartene is just a 15 minute stroll away with its shops, cafes and restaurants. Or if you fancy a day on Corsica's sunburnt sands, a short drive takes you to secluded beach of Tizzano or the seaside resort of Propriano. Holidays don't get any better than this beautiful bolthole.
