Sometimes, you just want to leave the hustle and bustle of the world behind you and escape to the tranquillity of the unspoilt countryside. Somewhere you can have all to yourself. You'd think you'd be hard stretched to find such a place, but if you've not heard of the Ropa Valley yet, it's because this enchanting region isn't a mass tourism destination. And nor does it aspire to be. This peaceful place does exactly what it says on the tin. It's all magical mountain ranges, fragrant pine forests, crystal clear rivers and, of course, views that'll whip your breath away. Considered to be one of the most beautiful landscapes on the island, if the thought of waking up to the sight of verdant valleys with soft swirling mists sounds like your kind of getaway, you'll be on cloud nine here. It's the perfect rural retreat. Stretching over 2500 acres towards the north of the Mesis province, the valley has become an important wetland habitat to hosts of wildlife including birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. Get up close and personal to this great outdoors and join a horse trek or set off on foot and discover hidden hamlets. And you're only a short drive from the gold dust beaches on offer here. Just 15 minutes away are the sugar-soft shores of Glyfada and Ermones, with sands that stretch for miles and plenty of facilities, to boot. And if you like your golf, head for the Corfu Club. Designed by famous architect, Donald Harradine, this course blends beautifully into the Ropa Valley and is as enjoyable for the scratch player as it is for the long handicap one. A word of warning – you will at some point have to leave this spellbinding valley. You won't be able to resist returning, but keep it under your sunhat, eh.
