When booking a holiday, it's pretty rare to find a place that's central yet peaceful at the same time. But that's exactly what you get at the Blue Aegean. You're within walking distance of the beach, bars and resort centre, yet it's definitely calm. Inside the hotel, however, you'll find the apartments are definitely something to shout about. Each one has a garden or pool view, along with a seating area and well-equipped kitchenette. But you may not be interested in cooking once you've seen the fabulous restaurant. Forget run-of-the-mill hotel grub, this place has an a la carte menu to die for. Choose from traditional Greek dishes, like beef-based 'Vodhino Stifado', or try something spicy from around the globe. If they're not to your taste, don't worry, you'll find more than enough English treats on offer. We can heartily recommend the Aberdeen Angus steak, served with a wine, cream and brandy sauce. Delicious. Of course there's more to this place than great food. Outside, you'll find a pool that could well drag you away from the nearby sea. And if you're not keen on swimming, take advantage of the loungers dotted around the side. As you laze on the sunbeds you can keep an eye on the kids, who have their own pool to splash in. And when the inevitable cry of 'I'm hungry, I'm thirsty' rears its head, there's a poolside snack bar to hand. All in all, if you're looking for peaceful Greek getaway, this place will be right up your holiday street.

Arrived 5th Sept 2008 for 2 weeks at Blue Aegean Hotel, Gouves, with self-catering double room on ground floor, which was a wheelchair user room. Thomson rep couldnt get us another room. There is an extra charge of 50 euros per week for air conditioning!... more on this review
