Cool, contemporary and with bags of charm, the Bourtzi is a real current affair. From the outside, this cubist-style whitewashed building looks like Picasso might have had his hands on the design. Walk through the cast-iron gates and into the pretty courtyard lined with floor lighting and the modernist feel continues. In fact, you could be mistaken for thinking you'd just stepped onto the set of an interior design magazine shoot. Don't worry about having to keep up appearances here though - the atmosphere is delightfully laid back and the welcome as warm as the Greek sun. From the moment you step into the elegant reception with its gleaming polished floors you're treated with care and attention – not like a room number. Once you've unpacked your bag in your stylish room, why not head down to the charming pool area? Set at the heart of the complex, the smart pool is flanked by a pretty patio that's sprinkled with sun beds and terracotta-potted plants. There's also a tropical-style bar to keep you refreshed and refuelled throughout the day. If you fancy getting out and about, you couldn't be in a better spot. Not only are you slap bang at the heart of Skiathos Town, but the gorgeous sand beach of Megali Ammos is only a 20 minute walk away. And after dark, take the few minutes stroll the old harbour which comes to life with atmospheric restaurants and traditional tavernas.
