Guide to Playa De Los Pocillos

'Peaceful Playa de los Pocillos is a world away from the lively side of Lanzarote.'

If a stretch of sand, the odd bar and a couple of restaurants are all it takes to create your perfect beach break, Playa de los Pocillos is just the ticket. It's neither a traditional fishing village or an action-packed mega-resort. What it's about is rest and relaxation. Beach-wise you've got a broad expanse of fine sand, gently shelving into clear waters. And there's often a balmy breeze off the sea that tempers the summer heat - not to mention making the resort a favourite with windsurfers. As for other daytime activities, it's mainly down to more watersports. If you fancy a day out, there are regular buses to the island's capital, Arrecife, where you'll find a good range of shops, as well as some interesting sights, including El Charco de San Gines, a saltwater lagoon in the city centre surrounded by fisherman's houses, and two museums housed in castles. In the evening, Playa de los Pocillos is not the place for nightlife lovers, who should instead head down to Puerto Del Carmen for some action. However, if you're not worried about dancing the night away and a good meal is the order of the day, there are a couple of good restaurants on the seafront. This place is all about the laid-back holiday life-style – so sit back, relax and go with the flow.

Beaches

Playa de los Pocillos has a marvellous sandy beach that shelves gently into the sea and is bordered by a long promenade.

Eating out

Although Los Pocillos has a couple of international restaurants overlooking the ocean and is home to one of the better know fast food outlets, just further along the coast is Puerto del Carmen with a huge selection of restaurants including some excellent fish restaurants based in the old own harbour area. There are a large variety of menus on offer to accommodate all tastes.

Nightlife

This is a quieter resort than most although the promenade offers a range of bars and restaurants. However, the lively nearby resort of Puerto del Carmen will offer louder alternatives for a night out with its heady mix of disco bars and late night clubs.

Shopping

Playa de los Pocillos has a sprinkling of shops, supermarkets and bazaars but a short trip to Puerto del Carmen's main stretch will take you to hundreds of shops selling anything from souvenirs to designer labels. Take the local bus from the beach road to the islands capital, Arrecife, where the locals tend to shop in the back lanes or the pedestrianised main street.

Local information

A stroll around the promenade takes you into Matagorda and onto the airport for those plane enthusiasts amongst us. Head to nearby Arrecife for a day of sightseeing and shopping.
