Guide to Puerto De Soller

"The charming resort of Puerto de Soller is not just a joy to arrive in, it is a pleasure to travel to. A delightful old train makes the journey north from Palma through the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains, giving glorious views of the beautiful landscape. The resort itself curves around a natural harbour that is one of the few safe havens for sailors needing refuge on the north coast. Peaceful and relaxing, it is popular with those seeking a quiet, traditional place to stay, as well as those who come for the walking trips in the spectacular countryside."

Set on a perfectly rounded bay, Puerto de Soller nestles at the foot of the Sierra de Tramontana hills, surrounded by groves of lemon and orange trees. Once a bustling textile centre it is now an extremely agreeable resort with a lot of traditional charm.

Beaches

Narrow sandy beaches along the bay shelve gently into calm, clear waters. Excellent for scuba-diving and a number of other watersports.

Eating out

Relaxed, informal nightlife with a good choice of bars and restaurants, especially along the promenade, or take the tram into Soller. A local speciality is 'Calamares en su tinta', squid cooked in its own ink. Interesting for its jet black colour, it is usually served with white rice and is ideally accompanied by a bottle of wine from the Binissalem vineyards.

Nightlife

Music bars and shows are laid on by the hotels and the picturesque cove of La Calobra nearby is an occasional setting for summer-time concerts.

Shopping

There is a lively market in Soller on Saturday mornings and plenty to tempt you in the shops, especially locally produced textiles. Enjoy the train ride to Palma for more cosmopolitan shopping.
