An introduction to Lily Beach Island

Just imagine. You're throwing open the window to see angel-white sand drenched in sunbeams. You're sitting on your sundeck, kicking your feet through Tiffany-blue waters. You're wandering barefoot into the restaurant for a mouthwatering meal coupled with great service. Ultra sophisticated yet seriously relaxed, this is one of those dreamy places you'll never want to leave. In terms of where you'll find this all-inclusive resort, it's set on a paradise isle in the South East Ari Atoll. From Male International Airport, it's just a twenty-five minute journey by seaplane. The accommodation consists of bungalows which are air-conditioned and come with a CD player, mini-fridge and telephone so you're guaranteed a break that's big on comfort and high on style. When it comes to food and drink, there's an elegant buffet restaurant whose white sandy floor invites you to slip off your shoes and really get into the relaxed atmosphere. And if it's just a drink or a quick snack you're after, there are two bars and a cafe to choose from so you're never far from a thirst-quenching cocktail or an energy-boosting caffeine fix. There's plenty on offer activity-wise, too – when you're not stretched out and sunning by the pool, that is. Take your pick from things like tennis, volleyball and the fitness centre. Or opt to take it easy with a few pick-me-up spa treatments. Of course, being the Maldives there's plenty tempting you to get wet, too, with snorkelling, windsurfing and kayaking all on the menu. Then there's the diving to think about. With access to more than 40 dive sites, the centre here caters for novices, pros and everyone in between. Come night-time, there's occasional live music and magic shows to spice things up. Or you might just plump for a quiet drink in the soft glow of the moon. And who could blame you?

This island is about 500x70 metres and is uncrowded. The beautiful beach gives way to a sharply shelving reef rich in colourful fish and beautiful corals. The reef can be swum in complete safety deespite the occasional moderate current. The Dive... more on this review
