New holiday destinations for Lakes and Mountains

Thomson is today launching their main edition of next summer’s Lakes & Mountains brochure featuring over 100 resorts in 12 countries and the market’s widest choice of places: hotels, B&B, self-catering properties as well as tours, fly drives, cruises and twin centre holidays.

The new resort in Austria is Maria Alm, a traditional village at the foot of dramatic Hochkönig mountains, offering a variety of walking paths to suit everyone from strollers to hikers. The nearby golf course Urslautal, set on a natural plateau against the backdrop of the Steinernes Meer mountains, is one of the most scenic championship golf courses in the Alps.

New in Switzerland are Gstaad, a traffic-free village and Fribourg, a medieval city. Fribourg has some magnificent architecture, from the Gothic cathedral with its 74m bell tower, the baroque-style bridge and the many fountains dotted around the city. Culture aside, Fribourg is a city for gourmets – home to no less than ten restaurants mentioned in the renowned GaultMillau guide.

The Via Alpina Walking Tour in Austria, a self-guided tour including two days walking from Mühlbach in the Hochkönig region to Maria Alm via Dienten is also new. The paths take you across Alpine meadows, through woodland and stunning view points. Half board accommodation is provided in each village and your luggage is taken separately to the next hotel so you enjoy the walk carrying only a day rucksack.

Also new is the Pearls of the Mediterranean Cruise, a cruise and stay combination, explores the fascinating stretch of the 1000 islands coastline that borders the Adriatic sea and takes in a relaxing week on the shores of Lake Garda. The cruise takes in the ports of Izmir, Istanbul, Dubrovnik and Katakolon/ Olympia.

Thomson continues to offer free child places at selected accommodation on every departure date and family value child prices from just £99 to underline the importance of being a family friendly specialist.

Lead-in price is £309 per person for 7 nights’ bed & breakfast in the Hotel Obermair in Mayrhofen, Austria, departing on 24th September 2008 from Doncaster-Sheffield airport inclusive of transfers.
